The glory of God is man, fully alive.
~ St. Ireneaus
Born about 100 years after the beginning of the Christian Church, Ireneaus lived in an interesting time. He met people who had talked, studied, and been disciples of the original Apostles of Christ.
Perhaps best know for this quote, “The glory of God is man, fully alive…:” Ireneaus had a wonderful view of the depth of God’s love for us. Do you know that God made man, (Us!!) in HIS image? We are his image bearers; we are the pristine reflection of him. Now does a mirror need to be polished every now and then? YES! But how much more glorious will that refection be after a little elbow grease is applied? God made man in His image. We are glorious as God is Glorious. We are a reflection of Him. Does God want us to live mediocre lives? No! That is not a reflection of glory! That is a trap, a lie to entangle us in the mundane, the drudgery and mire that wears on our ever day life.
So what does God call us to? He calls us to be fully alive. To LIVE. What is life but memories, adventures, time with friends and family, and touching the lives of others? Co-creating a life with God that actually allows us to live is what we are called to. He wants us to take risks, to push life to its limits, to be victorious in our endeavors. Will there be hard times? Yes. It is life after all, not easy street! Will we get discouraged? Yes, it will seem as though things are not going our way. But you know what? That will make the reward, the success, the pinnacle of the adventure that much sweeter.
